The Department of Bio-Medical Physics and Bio-Engineering

The Department of Bio-Medical Physics and Bio-Engineering was established in 1965 to practice and promote Medical Physics in North Eastern Scotland. It is a university department, but as befits its role and responsibilities, it is also part of the hospital, and is located at the Foresterhill site, adjacent to the Medical School. Since its inception, the department has gained an international reputation for the quality of its research and the pioneering of new techniques.
The Department has three functions: to provide technical services, facilities and expertise for health care in the Grampian Region of Scotland and the Orkney and Shetland Islands; to provide training in medical physics, bio-engineering, information technology, and the applications of technology in medicine; to carry out research and development of the applications of physics and technology in medical diagnosis and treatment.
